Scholars Academy Information & Application, Applications due February 2

The purpose of The Scholars Academy is to provide advanced learners with a quality education beyond the traditional AP level. Through a partnership between Spartanburg County Schools and USC Upstate, the program allows students to take college courses and advanced high school classes over four years while still participating in classes and extracurricular activities at their own high schools.

Eighth grade students interested in applying to The Scholars Academy for 2018-2019 may download an application for completion. Click here to download application.

Applications are due by 12 noon Friday, February 2, 2018 to Mrs. Nichols in Guidance.

Interested students and parents are encouraged to attend one of the informational sessions held in the University Readiness Center at USC Upstate on either:

Monday, November 13, from 7-8 pmor,

Tuesday, January 16, from 7-8 pm.

(Attending a session is not required but highly recommended.)

Information is also available on the ScholarsAcademy website at https://www.uscupstate.edu/academics/school-of-education/additional-programs/scholars-academy/

**Potential applicants should note the importance of the essay part of the application. This portion seems to set apart those who get an interview and those who do not. The scoring of the essay is on a writing rubric, which includes an evaluation of content, organization, conventions of language and voice (sentence structure, word choice, tone & style).  Many applicants “look” alike numerically (i.e. test scores, grades, recommendations, etc.); therefore, a distinguishing factor is writing is quite different in quality for each applicant.**
